Even, some essential ingredients aren’t available as organic yet, we are committed to use the highest quality ingredients, which are carefully selected.

History
Established in 2013 We are very glad to introduce Sukho Thai Restaurant to the neighborhood of Rockridge area. Our management has over 20 years impressive culinary background managing Thai Delight Cuisine on North Shattuck, Berkeley and Thai Spices & Sushi, Cary, North Carolina. Our chefs also have intensive years of culinary experience in upscale hotels from Thailand and Thai restaurants in the US.
Thai Delight Cuisine, Berkeley, becomes known as the pioneer in taking Thai food to another level of healthy and delicious since 1994. Sukho Thai menu will stay involved in Thai traditional dishes, vegetarian, and an additional organic menu as it is our expertise.

Behind our name
The name of Sukho Thai comes from Sukhothai, which was an early kingdom of Thailand. Sukhothai means Dawn of Happiness. It is located in the north central part of Thailand. The Kingdom existed from 1238 until 1438. The old capital now is in ruins and has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage historical park. Sukhothai kingdom in the past 700 years flourished with the abundance of natural resources. Sukhothai was named after the name of our heroic king Ramkhamhaeng (raam-kam-haeng), who invented the Thai Alphabets.

History of Sukhothai kingdom
Traditional Thai historians considered the foundation of the Sukhothai kingdom as the beginning of our nation because little was known about the kingdoms prior to Sukhothai. Modern historical studies demonstrate that Thai history began before Sukhothai. Yet the foundation of Sukhothai is still a celebrated event.
Sukhothai story was narrated into Thailand’s “national history” in late 19th century by King Mongkut, Rama IV, based on his finding of the Number One Stone Inscription, or Silajaruek in Thai word, the ‘first evidence’ telling the history of Sukhothai. The Silajaruek Sukhothai are hundreds of stone inscriptions that form a historical record of the period.
Sukhothai was said to be the ‘first national capital’, followed by Ayutthaya, Thonburi until Rattanakosin or today Bangkok. Sukhothai history was crucial among Thailand’s ‘modernists’, both ‘conservative’ and ‘revolutionary. Rama IV (King Mongkut) said that he found ‘the first Stone Inscription’ in Sukhothai, telling story of Sukhothai’s origin, heroic kings such as Ramkhamhaeng, administrative system and other developments, considered as the ‘prosperous time’ of the kingdom. Even with this inscription body only 124 lines short but packed story enriched with several academic disciplines. Text mentions that “fishes in water, rice in the fields” suggests that the economy in the Sukhothai period was very stable with agricultural abundance. And the trade was free.
One of the most well-known topics was Sukhothai’s ‘democracy’ rule. Story of the close relationship between king and his people, vividly described as ‘father-son’ relationship, the ‘seed’ of Thai Democracy.
